Copyright compliance

By registering at the library, users agree to adhere to all borrowing and copyright regulations as stipulated bellow:

    1. Photocopying, scanning and digital re-use: Under UK law, for the purposes of private study or research for a non-commercial purpose you may make a single copy of:
      • one article from any one issue of a journal or periodical
      • one chapter or 5% of extracts from a published work.

You may only make single copies, unless you are authorised to make multiple copies under the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) Photocopying, Scanning and Digital Re-use – Comprehensive Higher Education Licence.

Unless you are authorised, any digital copies must not be placed on a network or the Internet.

Unless it is impracticable, each copy must be accompanied by a sufficient acknowledgement.

  1. Videos/DVDS
    • Films may be borrowed on a short-term basis by registered Library users for their own individual private study and non-commercial research.
    • Films may be borrowed by registered Library users and shown to an audience of University staff and students. Such a showing must be for educational, instructional purposes only. No fee may be charged for the viewing.
    • Films may not be shown to the general public.
    • No copies of a film may be made in any format or media. Digital rights management measures such as copy control mechanisms embedded in the media may not be removed for any purpose.

The photocopying of copyright material is restricted under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 (and later amendments) and EU legislation. Users must satisfy themselves that any copying they undertake is legal. Guidelines on copying are displayed in the photocopying room; guidance on copying sound recordings is displayed in the Audio Room. If in doubt, please consult a recent version of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 and the Copyright Licensing Agency’s HE Trial Photocopying and Scanning Licence documentation.
